Big Series for the Dodgers

With the Dodgers holding only a 5 game lead over the Rockies and 5.5 games over the Giants, the upcoming series with the Giants is crucial. It could very well decide the NL West. If the Dodgers are able to take 2 of 3 from the Giants, it would give them a cushy 6.5 game lead. It will be tough as the Dodgers will be without Chad Billingsley and they'll have to face the reigning Cy Young Award Winner Tim Lincecum on Wednesday. Lincecum coming off his worst outing in 2 months Friday vs Cincinnati will look to get back on track with his exceptional pitching at SBC Park.

But don't forget the Rockies. Quietly, this team is emerging as one of the best teams in the NL. They are very consistent from top to bottom and it will be a dogfight to hold for the Dodgers to hold off the men from Coors Field.

  1. The Rocks have been one of the best teams in baseball since they fired Hurdle. They also have a favorable, home-heavy schedule down the stretch. I don't think they'll overtake the Dodgers for the NL West Pennant, but they should win the wild card.

    How about them Angels Yurk?

  2. I love the Angels' offense this year, but am concerned about their pitching. They just are not getting the consistency they need from Saunders and Santana. If they are going to advance, they'll need a third starter to step up.

The bigger problem is the Rangers who have owned the Angels this year...taking 9 out of 12 thus far. Currently only 4 games back in the standings and with 7 head-to-head games remaining including the final 4 games of the year at Angels Stadium, the Rangers might control their own destiny.

In the very end, I think the Angels will pad their lead over the next few weeks providing them with enough cushion to hold off Texas and win the AL West.
